Driftwood Art - The Black Vulture
A sculpture using driftwood as the primary material. Other materials used are pine cone scales, twigs and roots, pistachio nut shells, acorn shells, and yellow quartz.
HEIGHT 8"/LENGTH 13"
This was my first attempt at a professional level sculpture, and to this day, was one of the most difficult pieces of driftwood in regards to discerning what it could be as a sculpture. After about 3 month of staring at that piece of driftwood, the image finally revealed itself to me. At first, I knew it was a bird, then it dawned on me that this was one of my favorite birds, a black vulture. So I began assembling it with the materials I had, and about a month later it was completed to my satisfaction. The initial response to this piece was amazing and a viewing at a small event near Quebec City was incredible, and offers for it were inspiring enough to set me on a new path in life. Of course I declined those offers so I could build a proper exhibition with diverse subjects and creative techniques. Although I don't consider this my greatest piece, it certainly is one of my favorites and I'm very proud of it. It also has the special meaning for me, with the distinction of being the first piece in my gallery, and starting point of my new profession.
