Driftwood Sculpture - The Snail
A sculpture of a Snail using driftwood as the primary material. The snail shell is a piece of curled tree root burl. The snail body is two pieces of driftwood.
HEIGHT 7"/LENGTH 14"
The foundation piece for this sculpture was the shell of the snail, found in a creek flood plain in southwestern Ontario. As a piece of flood plain driftwood, it's surface is more detailed than typical driftwood found in larger rivers. A rare burl such as this was very intriguing to me, and it was difficult to discern what it could be used for. After months of studying it, the idea finally came to me and it was very exciting to proceed. Although not as technically advanced as most of my pieces, the snail offered a whimsical style of character creation that I rarely get to explore.
