Great Blue Heron - Driftwood Art
This heron began with the head piece which resembled a heron head that would become the second heron sculpture I have made. It was almost a year before I found a suitable piece of driftwood for the torso, and assembly of the heron began. I then proceeded to find the right pieces for the legs and feet, using pistachio shells for the claws. I had some driftwood parts in stock that were used for the neck and wings, and the fine heron feathers were achieved using pine needles. Finally the eyes were made from yellow quartz stones.
Prior the assembly, all parts go through a cleaning and heat treatment process. The final product is mounted on a black wood base, and coated with a matte sealant.
